Dreamed of Working For MAC Cosmetics?
Now a days it seems like everyone is a make up artist, from Instagram, to Pinterest, and even Facebook. You can find thousands of people calling themselves a “Professional Make Up Artist” and some of them actual are. But if you really want to learn from the best, and get your foot in the door to one of the largest, trend setting, make up companies out there, l have the best tips for you. Coming from someone who has worked for MAC Cosmetics for almost 9 years, I know what it takes to get hired. I recently resigned about a year ago after I had my son. With all the knowledge, and experience I have collected over the years, I have used all of that to my advantage, and still sometimes do freelance make up outside of the company.
Don’t Be Intimidated
Before I ever worked for the company, I remember feeling so intimidated to even go to the counter. All of the people that worked there always looked flawless! I wanted a job there so bad, they always dressed so cute and had the most amazing make up. So I decided to drop off my resume, and befriend a few of the girls and to my surprise I got the job. Although it wasn’t until a year later, after I had worked my butt off in beauty school, and had multiple interviews. But If being a professional make up artist, and working for MAC is a dream of yours, I have broken down a few simple steps to help you get your foot in the door. You don’t have to go to Beauty School to get hired.
Do More Than Dropping Off A Resume
Don’t think that just dropping off your resume is going to get you hired, because 99% of the time it won’t. What you really want to do is get to know some of the guys and girls that work there. Make an appointment to get your make up done, and strike up a conversation about how they got hired and who the manager is. Visit the counter often and once you know who the manager is talk to them, and let them know that you would love an opportunity to work there. Ask the manager about freelancing, or if there are any job fairs coming up. Surprisingly MAC does do frequent job fairs to find new hires, and the best part is you really don’t need any experience. When I first was interviewed they didn’t hire me, and then a year later I received a phone call asking me to do another interview and I was hired the next day. Don’t give up even if you get turned down the first time, MAC loves people who have a lot of passion. It is a great company to work for, if you are just starting out and want to get knowledge and training under your belt.
Life Altering Job
Working for the company has completely changed the way I do, and wear make up, but be warned this is a life changing job. Meaning your social, and family life outside of work is going to take a drastic hit. You are going to have to work every weekend, and every holiday, and you are going to miss out on a lot of family events. Working for MAC is the kind of job that takes over your life, especially when you first start. Make sure you are ready to give up your weekends, and holidays before you take the job. There are some amazing perks that you do get working for MAC, the discount for one is amazing and you get free make up every time a new line comes out. You also get EMS every six months which stands for Employee Make Up Supplies, the amount depends on how many hours you work for the company.
Pros And Cons To Every Job
There are pros and cons to working for the company, but if you are passionate about make up, then get your butt out there and make your dreams come true, I know you won’t regret it. I stayed with the company for 9 years, and have a whole lot of awesome skills, and make up to show for it. I wish you the best of luck, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
